William Meisel, Ph.D., president, TMA Associates, is publisher and editor of LUI News (formerly Speech Strategy News), a paid-subscription monthly newsletter launched in 1993, which covers the commercial applications of the Language User Interface.
Dr. Meisel has authored the most comprehensive digital assistant product guide in the market today which covers 270+ intelligent assistant/Bot products and 125+ implementations – Digital Assistants and Bots: A Vendor Guide. He chairs the Conversational Interaction Conference for AVIOS, and he produces a ½ day workshop at our AI World event entitled “Building an Application-Specific Intelligent Assistant”.
He is author of the 2013 book The Software Society, and a consultant on market and product opportunities created by the maturing of speech and natural language technology. His experience in speech technology includes founding and running a speech recognition company and authoring a technical book on machine learning.
Dr. Meisel previously founded a venture-capital-backed speech recognition company, Speech Systems Inc., and ran it for ten years. Dr. Meisel’s experience combines a strong academic, technical, and business background. With a B.S. degree in Engineering from Caltech and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southern California/ Je was a professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at USC, where he published over 70 papers and several books. He has been issued eleven patents in various areas of technology. After working in university research, Dr. Meisel launched and managed the Computer Science Division of an aerospace company, applying pattern recognition technology to a number of application areas, including target detection and intelligence data analysis.
