Suhail Shergill leads the Data Science & Model Innovation team under Global Risk Management (GRM) at The Bank of Nova Scotia (dba Scotiabank). The team is known for applying novel techniques to consumer credit risk modelling, partnering with startups, as well as innovating on the tools and technology used to develop and deploy risk models.
Prior to joining Scotiabank, Suhail led a distributed data science “skunkworks” team at Yellow Pages Canada where they open-sourced an ETL orchestration platform with recoverability with Apache Spark and were one of the first production users of Mesosphere’s DCOS infrastructure. The team also built a proprietary recommendation dashboard to augment the capabilities of digital advertisement campaign managers and help them deliver micro-campaigns. Suhail has successfully led data science innovation in both enterprise and startup settings.
Suhail is passionate about machine learning and is an avid speaker, actively participating in conferences such as Risk USA, Global Derivatives, AWS re:Invent. A champion of the machine learning community in Canada, Suhail is also the founder and organizer of the Montreal Apache Spark meetup, Toronto Probabilistic Programming meetup, and Toronto Differential Privacy meetup.
