Babson named Education Sponsor for AI World 2017
Conference in Boston December 11-13

AI World has named Babson College the Education Sponsor for AI World 2017 to be held
December 11-13, 2017 in Boston, Massachusetts.

Oct 30, 2017 – As part of the sponsorship, Babson’s Technology, Operations, and Information Management Department will join the Cognitive Computing Consortium for a separate, full-day program focused on information for the AI / cognitive computing professional. The program will deliver a wide-ranging set of keynotes and sessions devoted to practical challenges for experienced AI practitioners, and will feature Babson College faculty members Ganesan Shankar as presenter and Clare Gillan as moderator.

Babson Professor Ganesan Shankar will co-present ‘A Reference Model for Cognitive Applications,’ showcasing a joint research program sponsored by Babson College and the Cognitive Computing Consortium. The research program is creating a data-centered model for describing and characterizing cognitive applications, and can be used in multiple ways, by organizations planning to integrate cognitive techniques into their operations. Decision makers, developers, human factors professionals, business owners, and users can all use this model to develop insights about their cognitive applications projects.

“AI and Machine Learning have moved from an esoteric topic to a main-stay in today’s business,” said Babson Associate Professor Ganesan Shankar. “Understanding these topics is therefore important not just from a technology perspective but also from a business sense. The purpose of this conference, specifically, the session on Machine Intelligence, is for business users and decision makers to understand how to approach the development of machine intelligence applications and systems, not just the underlying technologies but also the applicability and business value.”

Artificial intelligence-based applications are now being designed and deployed by a number of innovative enterprises. A groundswell of interest from large and small firms was seen at AI World 2016, where attendance exceeded expectations with well over 2,000 attendees. AI World 2017 will build on this success.

“We are very excited to be collaborating with Babson College as Education Sponsor of our AI World 2017 conference and expo in Boston,” said Eliot Weinman, CEO, Trends Equity and AI World Conference Chair. “The artificial intelligence industry is perhaps the fastest growing market segment in the world today. Billions of dollars are being invested into new innovative companies and technologies. Babson College has a world class track record of being the No. 1 ranked entrepreneurial MBA program for 24 consecutive years according to U.S. News & World Report. According to Eliot Weinman, CEO, Trends Equity, Inc. and Chair, AI World, “Earlier this year we announced we were teaming up with Dr. Meisel to produce a half-day workshop at AI World on intelligent assistants and Bots. The workshop was developed for business and technology executives who want an in-depth analysis of today’s market landscape, insights on determining which applications are best used for intelligent assistants/Bots and what are the best tools, technologies and services to use for their particular implementation. Meisel, a veteran independent industry expert on intelligent assistants, has spent the last four months researching and writing the most comprehensive report on the intelligent assistant/Bot market to date. The intelligent assistant market is expected to boom in the coming years. Meisel has also built a sound financial model to predict the size of this market expansion. Any business interested in doing their own research on this market or that wishes to deploy a bot or digital assistant will find this report extremely valuable, and it will save them tens of thousands of dollars in manpower and resources.”

A digital assistant is a cloud-based application that communicates with an individual through “natural language” (the language we use to communicate with other humans, by voice or text). The assistant, like a talented human assistant, responds by providing requested information or accomplishing a requested task. One rapidly growing form of digital assistant, typically called a “bot,” is addressed by a natural-language text message from within a messaging application such as Facebook Messenger or Microsoft Skype.

Some general digital assistants, including Apple’s Siri, Microsoft’s Cortana, Amazon’s Alexa, and Google’s upcoming Assistant, try to help you with anything you want. Specialized digital assistants have a narrower goal, letting you interact with a single company or specific service. The specialized assistants can operate independently through a website, as a mobile application, by text message, over a phone connection, within a car, or in a particular environment such as a warehouse. The general digital assistants are increasingly able to contact a specialized assistant for help at a user’s request. Also, messaging applications are making it possible to contact “bots,” texting them as if they were simply one of your contacts.

The report provides separate estimates for digital assistants targeted at consumers and those used internally at companies to make the use of enterprise software more efficient. The Enterprise segment is expected to be about 17% of the market in 2016, dropping to 13% of the market in 2020 as consumer assistants expand rapidly.

“Digital assistants are increasingly becoming the new way companies and applications will interact with users, as the market estimates show,” Meisel said. “Every company must understand the options available to participate in this trend. The bulk of the report discusses 170 companies that can help them do so, with a guide to make efficient use of this information.”

The cost of this report is $1,950. The report can be purchased at aitrends.com/research-bots/. Buyers of the report will also receive special pricing to attend Dr. Meisel’s Workshop at AI World on Nov 7 in San Francisco – aiworldexpo.com/sessions/digital-assistants-bots-seminar/

Trends Equity and Lux Research Announce AI World Conference & Expo

TRENDS EQUITY AND LUX RESEARCH ANNOUNCE AI WORLD CONFERENCE AND EXPO

Event focuses on “The Business and Technology of Artificial intelligence”

Trends Equity, Inc. and strategic research partner Lux Research, Inc. today announced AI World Conference and Expo, to be held November, 7–9, 2016 at the Hilton Parc 55, San Francisco. The conference and exposition is designed to enable global 2000 business executives learn from, and network with, the leaders of the applied AI industry.

According to Eliot Weinman, conference founder and CEO of Trends Equity, “The AI market promises to be one of the fastest growing business and technology markets over the next decade. Over the past few years we’ve seen dozens of AI companies quickly acquired by the likes of Google, Apple, Facebook, Amazon, IBM and others, and according to Venture Scanner, there are 930 global companies, across 13 categories in artificial intelligence that have raised $4.4 billion.”

Even though the definition of AI remains open, forecasters are trying to quantify AI in dollar terms:
• Market intelligence firm Tractica forecasts cumulative revenue of $43.5 billion during the ten-year period from 2015 through 2024,
• Market Research Store predicts AI revenues will be $40 billion in the single year of 2022. This report states that the U.S. currently represents the largest market, and the fastest growing segment is Expert Systems which are increasingly being used in aviation, defense and financial institutions.
• Reports and Reports believes the advertising and media, finance, and retail sectors will be the main drivers and that total market size will be just $5.05 billion in 2020.

“The wild range of these forecasts reflect AI’s broad applicability and potential, but also confusion, risk, and opportunity to form the future,” offers Mark Bünger, conference co-chair and VP of Research with Lux Research. “At AI World Conference and Expo we seek to separate the nonsense from the insights, the goldmines from the landmines, and the reality from the hype.”

“We’ve created a comprehensive 3-day program that includes more than 40 sessions and workshops, mentor opportunities and entrepreneurial pitches along with an exhibition showcasing leading AI innovators,” explains Mr. Weinman. In addition to assisting business leaders to gain a firm grasp on what AI can do to help their companies become more competitive, the objective of the event is also to act as a catalyst and facilitator for the many channels of the emerging AI ecosystem. “There’s still time to get involved with the conference and we invite all innovative users, solution providers, entrepreneurs, investors, and media and association partners to join us in advancing the AI industry.”
